  • Holotype: MLP 10818.
  • Paratypes: MLP 10817 (1), 10819 (3), 10821 (1, c&s).

Type locality: Argentina, Misiones Province, lower Iguazú River above Iguazú Falls, arroyo Deseado, 25°40’11.7”S 53°55’59.5”W.

Etymology: The specific epithet tuca is a Guaraní word (tucá) meaning toucan (Ramphastos) in reference to the similarly enlarged lips/beak.
