- Holotype: QMJ 90885, male; C. Hoskin, 13 February 2011.
- Type locality: AUSTRALIA: Magnetic Island, Gustav Ck (19°08'50"S, 146°50'41"E), north-east Queensland.
- Etymology: From the Latin rubigo, meaning ‘rust'. In reference to the rusty orange colouration on this species, particularly on the flanks of males.
