Name

[edit]

Atopochilus savorgnani Sauvage, 1879

  • Holotype (unique): MNHN A-0899.

Type locality: Falls of Doumé, Ogooué River at Doumé, Gabon.

Etymology: The specific name was given to honour Pietro Paolo Savorgnan di Brazzà, then known as Pierre Paul François Camille Savorgnan de Brazza, who made two trips, up the Gabon and Ogooué rivers. Under French colonial rule, the capital of the Republic of the Congo was named Brazzaville after him and the name was retained by the post-colonial rulers.
