Type locality: Ecuador, Morona-Santiago Province, Palora Canton, Sangay Sector, Pastaza River drainage, Amundalo River 10.3km WSW of Palora, 01°44'54.90"S, 78°02'39.78"W, 953 m a.s.l.

Etymology: The species epithet eschwartzae honors Ms. Eugenia Schwartz, an artist and benefactor whose generous support through the Coypu Foundation made the research for the authors possible.
