Holotype: UMMZ 118932, adult ♂, collected by William E. Duellman and John Wellman on 22 June 1958.

Type locality: “Rancho El Espinal, 5.2 miles by road from San Salvador, 1600 feet above sea level, Michoacán”, Mexico.
