I guess this is my user page (which i will edit further as time goes the way it does).

Anyway, I'm just some geeky guy on the East coast of Australia, I came here researching the MediaWiki system, with a view to deploying it as part of my job.

I've found MediaWiki to be an amazing leap forward from PHPwiki which i had installed and used to wonderful effect before. This being the case I hope to become a fervent MediaWiki convert.

WikiSpecies[edit]

I find this WikiSpecies particularly interesting as to my knowledge the taxonomy of biology is itself a continualy evolving structural system. For instance whole genera [genus] names can change or become merged or split, in a wiki format these developments can be noted and older references still lead to the current answers.

The great test will be if enough of the people with the knowledge will use the system.

I have a friend who is an amazing mycologist, botanist and horticulturalist who I am trying to convice to contribute to the project. He is a bit of a ludite so this will not be easy and my knowledge of the system will need to progress in order to support him if he does contribute.

copyright at WikiSpecies[edit]

In terms of the copyright issues that WikiSpecies faces, and taking into account that taxonomic publication has almost always been reliant upon inter-referencing between authors.

My point is; since reference documents down the ages have used properly attributed references can't WikiSpecies work in a similar fashion? In which case a referencing howto would be required.Echidna 15:59, 2 Feb 2005 (UTC)
