Explanation of type species[edit]

McCord and Uoni, 2007, attempted to correct the type designation of Chelodina oblonga Gray, 1841, by setting a neotype. As the Holotype of Chelodina oblonga was not missing they could not do this. Hence their concept of Chelodina oblonga was actually a new species and a Junior Objective Synonym of Chelodina colliei. This was published in Georges and Thomson, 2010; Kuchling, 2010. The issue was confirmed in pers. comm with the ICZN commissioners. This basically leaves Chelodina colliei as the type species for the then (2007) genus Macrodiremys which was reduced to subgenus by Georges and Thomson, 2010. The subgenus contains one species, Chelodina colliei. Faendalimas (talk) 14:01, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
