Macrozamia macleayi is disjunctly distributed from Mount Colosseum near Miriam Vale in the Port Curtis District, south to the Brisbane region in the Moreton District of Queensland, Australia. It is recorded to occur at elevations between 100 and 500 meters asl. It is abundant in numerous localities. Macrozamia macleayi grows in the under-storey of Araucarian microphyll vineforest or in open forest that is often dominated by eucalypts.
