Summary

Description Native, yearlong-green, perennial, erect, densely tufted grass to 70 cm tall. Flowerheads are more or less contracted and rather dense panicles. Flowers from spring to autumn. Found in a range of plant communities (especially woodlands and native grasslands) and on many soil types. Native biodiversity. Of low importance for sheep and cattle grazing as it is uncommon in pastures on the tablelands; more common further west. Produces moderate quantities of moderate quality feed, with most growth in spring, but grows year-round if conditions are suitable. Persists and seeds prolifically unless very heavily and continuously grazed.
