Although it did not seed freely, owing to some casualties attendingits cultivation, a few seeds were preserved, and it can now be procured at theClapton nursery, where it has bloomed abundantly during the present season. Seeds may be sown at diflferent periods, according as the plants are wished toflower. The best time is probably the month of March. They can be scatteredsparingly over a light soil, on a gentle hotbed, and very slightly covered ; or theymay be sown in pots. They should be potted singly, or with two or three in apot, while in an early stage of their growth, and extreme care is necessary topreserve them from too great dampness. In repotting, it is advisable to disturbthe roots as little as possible, for these are delicate, and the health of the specimenis entirely dependent on them. Hchizanthus is derived from sc/iizo, to cut, and ant/ios, a flower, referring to thenumerous indentations in the margins of the petab.

Style short, hooked, crowned by an obliquelyobtuse stigma. Legume vcntricose, one-celled, many-seeded, sessile or subscssile.—Dons Gard,and Botany. Specific Charactfr.—Plant an erect, evergreen shrub, brannhing freely, growing from two to three feetin height. Leaves usually alternate, sessile, ovate-lanceolate, mucronulate. Floivers axillary,solitary or in pairs, having long peduncles. Standard lnYgej bright red, with a yellow blotch at thebase. Wings and keel purplish crimson.
