Introduced, cool-season, perennial herb to 60 cm tall. Stem and branches are procumbent, decumbent or erect, quadrangular and moderately hairy. Leaves are shortly petiolate or sessile, triangular in outline, shortly hairy, becoming hairless with age, Lower leaves are variously acutely serrate, 1- or 2-pinnatifid, mostly 3-pinnatifid, 2–7 cm long and ultimate segments uniformly linear to subulate. Upper leaves are incised to sub-entire and smaller than lower leaves. Flowerheads are terminal and head-like. Peduncle, bracts and calyx are strongly glandular. Calyx is 5-toothed. Corolla is tubular, 5-lobed and white to violet or purple. Flowering is from spring to mid-summer. A native of South America, it is found in disturbed areas such as roasides.
