Summary
| Description |
eyelash grass, Blepharidachne kingii, California, White Mountains, Furnace Creek, Fishlake Valley drainage, elevation 1670 m (5485 ft). Just about my favorite grass species, this hardy Great Basin endemic forms dense tufts just a few centimeters high. Seen here near the southwest limit of its range, it extends northeastward across central Nevada to the northwest edge of Utah. Like many of its desert companions, it tends to remain dormant in dry years, waiting until years like this one to flower again. |
