Summary
DescriptionArtemisa longiloba (28547254015).jpg
Although considered by some as a subspecies or variety of Artemisia arbuscula, this "little sagebrush" flowers during the early middle summer (e.g., June) while Artemisia arbuscula remains in flower bud and begins flowering by late summer. Hence the common name of this species, "early sagebrush." The flowering heads of Artemisia longiloba are much larger, ofter 2-4x larger, than those of Artemisia arbuscula. In this area of the Camas Prairie of Idaho, Artemisia longiloba forms a mosaic with mountain big sagebrush, Artemisia tridentata vaseyana. The former has a darker color compared to the sagebrush green of mountain big sagebrush.
