The genus name is a diminutive of the Greek «kardamon» - Greek folk name of watercress - and found in the works of Dioscorides, «Graece» - from Greece. Distribution - Southern Europe - Greece, Albania, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Crete, Crimea. Название рода является уменьшительным от греческого «kardamon» – древнегреческого народного названия кресс-салата – и встречается еще в трудах Диоскорида, "graeca" - из Греции. Английское название данных растений «bittercress» переводится как «горький кресс-салат». Русское название является производным буквального перевода первой половины латинского названия (от «cardae» – сердце). Распространение: Южная Европа - Греция, Албания, Югославия, Болгария, Крит, Крым. Места обитания: затененные скалы, горные леса, каменистые склоны и осыпи, на известняках, змеевике, мраморе и других основных субстратах до высоты 1700м над уровнем моря.
