My name is Rory. About a year ago I created a collection of living things. I've had my hits and my misses. I have had previous commentary in the past, which is now saved on my hard drive and may be posted someplace else in the future. it's also time to start a new season of collecting various organisms. for this new year, the 2008 specimens (which are now permanent due to surviving the season) will be in the permanent category. The new organisms (2009 season) will be in their own category until the end of the season. This is because some will need to survive a season in order to be included as permanent. A new organism should be coming in soon in the mail. Only then will I reveal it.

I have purchased an African Violet (Saintpaulia ionantha) and a Swiss Cheese Plant (Monstera deliciosa) By the end of 2008, i was following the 20 species African Violet system. This eventually led me to believe that an African Violet which I had earlier on was a hybrid between two species. This led me to give that one to my mom as a gift. However, after reading a Finnish (though written in English) article about African Violets citing taxonomic work by Darbyshire 2006 and seeing this repeatedly, I am now following the Darbyshire taxonomic system. As such, it can be said that all cultivated African Violets are of the same species Saintpaulia ionantha. The exception are really dwarf sized specimens, which I suspect might have shumensis in the genes. As of now though, I am not to sure of that status.

I'll probably have some last words before the year ends.

November 30th, 2009
The Frog died within hours (probably due to stress upon adjusting to the environment). sucks but whatever. I might as well just get the African Clawed Frog instead. November 30th, 2009
I have got an African Clawed Frog. December 1st, 2009
I got a Lawson's Cypress. I think this will be my last for the year. December 13th, 2009
I have been looking at my new succulents recently and have noticed that what I thought was Cotyledon orbiculata is probably a hybrid echeveria. because of this, cotyledon orbiculata will be removed. A hybrid will not be included. December 25th, 2009
The Echeveria elegans may actually be an Echeveria hybrid. Therefore it will not be included for now. Further research will be needed to decide the fate of the supposed cotyledon orbiculata and echeveria elegans. December 25th, 2009
