Name[edit]

  • Synodontis nigrita Valenciennes in Cuvier & Valenciennes, 1840

Holotype: MNHN 0000-3051.

Type locality: Senegal, Senegal River.[1]

Etymology: The author gave this epithet because he believed that the species is unique to Senegal, which was in ancient times called the Niger (in Latin Nigrita).
