Type locality: Brazil, Pará, Melgaço, tributary of Igarapé Açú, lower Rio Anapu drainage, 01°48'15.4"S, 51°28'32.2"W [1].

Etymology: The species name benoneae is in honor of Naraiana Benone who collected the majority of the specimens that served as the basis for the description of the species.
