- Holotype: UF 221476; collected by Fred G. Thompson, Steven P. Christman and J. Malcolm Pierson, 19 March, 1994.
- Type locality: HONDURAS, Dept. Olancho, Agalta National Park, limestone ridge 6 km NW of Catacamas, ca. 14.88ºN, 85.92ºW, 1300 m alt.
- Etymology: The species name subsulca is from the Latin, sub-, less, and sulcus, a furrow, and alludes to the shallow sulcus formed below the periphery in the last whorl.
