Holotype: YPM ICH 025880. Paratypes: YPM ICH 025881; CAS 235267; UMMZ 249830; AMNH 258812.

Type locality: San Salvador Island, Bahamas, Crescent Pond, 1 km SE of the Gerace Research Centre, 24°06'45"N, 74°27'28"W. Google Maps.

Etymology: The specific name desquamator is from the Latin verb squamare, for one who removes scales from fishes.
