Ordo: Gemmatimonadales
Familia: Gemmatimonadaceae
Genus: Gemmatimonas
Species: G. aurantiaca

Nome[modifica]

Gemmatimonas aurantiaca, Zhang et al., 2003

Morphology[modifica]

Rod-shaped, gram-negative. Reproduces by budding.

Genetics[modifica]

The 16S rRNA sequence places this organism into its own phyla (19% sequence divergence). This new phyla originally contained only clones obtained from environmental sources with no cultured isolates. The original phyla was named candidate division BD or KS-B.

Physiology[modifica]

Able to utilize a limited range of carbon sources, such as yeast extract, polypepton, succinate, acetate, gelatin and benzoate. Neisser staining is positive and 4,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole-stained cells displayed a yellow fluorescence, indicative of polyphosphate inclusions. Menaquinone 9 is the major respiratory quinone. The cellular fatty acids of the strain were mainly composed of iso-C15 : 0, C16 : 1 and C14 : 0. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 66 mol%.

Ecology[modifica]

Isolated from wastewater. Growth range is 25 to 35 °C with an optimum temperature of 30 °C. The pH range for growth was 6.5 to 9.5, with an optimum of pH 7.0.
