kinoshitai[edit]

Hello Mr Hayashi.
I write concerning Poritia kinoshitai Hayashi, 1976. You have upgraded this taxon to species status, from being ssp of P. erycinoides and you have quoted Treadaway, 1995 as reference for this. However, I have the Treadaway 1995 checklist in front of me and on page 65, 4 lines up from the bottom of the page, he clearly lists the taxon as Poritia erycinoides kinoshitai, not according it specific rank. It was this citation that I used when I created the entries for this taxon some while ago. Please explain to me further why you believe that Treadaway justifies the binomial Poritia kinoshitai, as we should not have a prolonged argument about it. But if you have just misread Treadaway's paper, then we should revert to the subspecific rank for kinoshitai. Regards, Alan. Accassidy (talk) 17:38, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Mr. Alan Cassidy,.
I thank you very much for your kind indication. I am very sorry that I did not reply soon, because I found your indication just a few days ago. As you indicated, I made a mistake to quate Treadaway, 1995 as reference. But I received the letter from Mr. Treadaway about 2 years ago about the status of kinoshitai as follows: We have, a number of years back, shown our P. languana as a synonym of your P. kinoshitai which we believe is a full species, and not a ssp. of P. erycinoides. To my regret I do not know that in which paper they referred to. I was heard that he will publish the revised checklist of Philippine butterflies maybe in September. So I think I had better to deside the status of kinoshitai after reading the revised checklist. I have a great favour to ask of you. I would like you to use my name as H. Hayashi when you write the author's name after scientific name. Because the name, Hayashi, is very common name in Japan. There will be another, Hayashi, apper in the future. I hope you will forgive me making such a request. Yours sincerely, H. Hayashi. User:Hisakazu HAYASHI (User talk:Hisakazu HAYASHI) 29 August 2011

Dear Mr. Hisaku Hayashi,
It is good that you have joined us on WikiSpecies, as I believe that collaboration on the Internet is the easy way ahead for taxonomists. I will certainly use the initial "H. " as you suggest to avoid confusion with others of the same name. Regarding kinoshitai, I suspect that you are right in determining that this should have specific status and that languana is synonymous with kinoshitai. This is how it is on the Takanami website of Philippine butterflies. It is tempting to follow web references when they are from reliable sources such as Mr. Takanami, whose work is always of a high regard. However, not all web sites have similar authority and many are outdated. So I believe that it is better to set the status of taxa on WikiSpecies in accordance with publications in journals whenever possible. If Takanami or Treadaway publish a peer-reviewed revised check list for Philippines, then I will be the first to incorporate their revisions in these pages. Best Wishes, Alan. Heinz Schröder[edit]

Hello. I see that on some references to the recent checklist of Philippines by Treadaway etc you have spelled Heinz Schröder as "Heintz". Could you please check to make sure this doesn't happen again? Thanks, Alan. Accassidy (talk) 21:58, 30 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mycalesis mineus toshikoae[edit]

Mycalesis mineus toshikoae was sunk to a synonym of M. mineus macromalayana Fruhstorfer on P. 479 of Aoki, T., Yamaguti, S. & Uemura, Y., 1982. In Tsukada,E.(Ed.), Butterflies of the South East Asian Islands, 3. 500pp., incl. 113pls. Plapac. Tokyo. I would like the subspecies toshikoae to be deleted. Hisakazu Hayashi.
