Welcome to Wikispecies!

Hello, and welcome to Wikispecies! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages you might like to see:

If you have named a taxon, then it is likely that there is (or will be) a Wikispecies page about you, and other pages about your published papers. Please see our advice and guidance for taxon authors.

If you have useful images to contribute to Wikispecies, please upload them at Wikimedia Commons. This is also true for video or audio files containing bird songs, whale vocalization, etc.

Please sign your comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your username (if you're logged in) and the date. Please also read the Wikispecies policy What Wikispecies is not. If you need help, ask me on my talk page, or in the Village Pump. Again, welcome!

Publication date vs Title page date[edit]

Oh my dear friend! I must confess this question goes far beyond my knowledge and abilities. I usually rely on Zoonomen as the best source commenting publications dates and they have several good tables for many publications. HBW on line use to have also some good and updated info but now it is closed and the taxonomic info is not yet available at BOW, even on the paid access. I questioned BOW by email on this significant lack of care and they said they are planning to make it available...some day. Just your search on the specific issue of Tyrannus savana shows me you are much better prepared than myself to lead with this. Regarding your question: Should I list the reference under the title page date and then add a note? Should I include a reference to a publication that discusses the publication date?

My personal opinion is this is a very specific issue and once the correct date of publication is defined, I don't think there is much interest for the vast majority of users about the the discussion of such publication date.

I did not help that much, right? Cheers.--Hector Bottai (talk) 16:51, 21 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

By the way, your edition of taxonomy on the en wiki of en:Tyrannus savana looks perfect.--Hector Bottai (talk) 17:00, 21 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

At Wikispecies, when certain reference is adequate discussing the publication date, I think it should be added at the Additional references section.--Hector Bottai (talk) 17:04, 21 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
