Malacothamnus taxonomy[edit]

I've updated the taxonomy of Malacothamnus in Wikispecies to follow my 2023 treatment. Note that it will take some time for all the other databases to catch up but many already have or are currently in a weird halfway state of change (ex: POWO). Some taxa from my treatment may change with future research as population-level genetic analyses are still needed to sort out some questions. I note these in my treatment and hope future researchers tackle these questions. In the meantime, my treatment is the one to follow as it most closely follows the current evidence. The extreme alternative is the treatments of Bates (ex: Flora of North America). Bates's treatments have many taxa overly lumped based on morphological, phylogenetic, and geographic evidence, which is very problematic for the many taxa of conservation concern that he did not recognize. So, beware the Bates treatments and any database that follows his treatments.

Regarding Wikispecies, I just did some basic copying and pasting of formatting from some taxa already in Wikispecies. There may be formatting errors and likely more information could be added. If you want to fix or add more, go for it. Be wary of adding photos though as many are misidentified. I removed several from Malacothamnus taxon pages that were misidentified. Thanks!
