The species circumscription is still under discussion with two main competing view points. The older opinion described species combinations for virtually all stable apomictic variants, whereas the alternative tends to only ascribe subspecies or varietas names for the equivalent morphological variants, if indeed they decide even this is justified. The unresolved names on the taxon page are hang-overs from the former opinion. The later opinion is gaining more credibility through the Euro+Med, Cichorieae Portal and Global Working Checklist of Compositae - references will follow over in due course as will a work through the list of species and unresolved names.
