Curcuma chuanezhu was first described by Z.Y. Zhu (1990) without latin diagnosis, together with Curcuma chuanhuangjiang. Since this description was published in a restricted chinese publication, its chinese diagnosis was also given in Flora Sichuanica (1992). This speciem is synonym to other species, it is not accepted as a distinct Curcuma. sp. On the basis of molecular genetics Curcuma chuanezhu should be combined with Curcuma phaeocaulis (Cao & Komatsu, 2004) which is also a chinese Curcuma sp.
