Canis lupus dingo a separate species[edit]

There are sources indicating C.l.dingo as a separate species:

But ITIS is (still?) listing it as subspecies. --Murma174 (talk) 17:10, 28 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The taxonomic status of the dingo is presently varied according to source consulted. It is considered a full species by some, a subspecies of dog, a subspecies of wolf, or a variety/breed of dog with no separate taxonomic status (latest Australian position following Jackson et al., 2017 as per Australian Faunal Directory entry at https://biodiversity.org.au/afd/taxa/Canis_familiaris). The jury is probably still out at this time; further developments are awaited...
By the way I have removed the attribution of Canis dingo to "Blumenbach, 1780 [name combination]" from the page since this originates from a spurious record in ITIS which will be corrected shortly: refer relevant messages on Taxacom at http://mailman.nhm.ku.edu/pipermail/taxacom/2018-May/thread.html#132006 , and did other general names-related cleanup.
