4.0

[edit]

Latest version is 4.0 so I suggest to change 3.0 to 4.0. MGA73 (talk) 17:14, 2 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure if we can simply change it to 4.0 or whether it requires the Wikispecies community to do a vote on this matter. On Meta, the consultation page stated that it is not a vote. Yet the FAQ on that very page says projects may continue to opt-out of the default license (which is now 4.0). OhanaUnitedTalk page 19:59, 2 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hi User:OhanaUnited. Wikidata uses CC0 and Wikinews uses CC-BY-4.0 (and until recently 2.5) but I think it’s the other way around that community have to chose if they want a different license than the standard license. But if I click the link at the bottom of the page I get to the 4.0 page and when I edit the page I see the text “By saving changes, you agree to the Terms of Use, and you irrevocably agree to release your contribution under the CC BY-SA 4.0 License and the GFDL. You agree that a hyperlink or URL is sufficient attribution under the Creative Commons license.”. So all new contributions are 4.0 and I think it would be incorrect to try to force them to be 3.0. Creative Commons generally allow that you use an older version under the terms of a newer version but not the other way around. But if you are not sure perhaps you could make a notice at the village pump (or what it is called here) so other users may comment too.--MGA73 (talk) 04:20, 3 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

At the very end of the article, [[Wikipedia:Copyrights#Reusers' rights and obligations|Reusers' rights and obligations]] should be changed to [[:w:Wikipedia:Copyrights#Reusers' rights and obligations|Reusers' rights and obligations]], like at the very start of the article (but pointing to a specific section). Currently the link at the end of the article just redirects users to the mainspace Wikipedia Copyright article. (Whether or not it should be preceded by a colon is not my area of expertise.) --WrenFalcon (talk) 05:50, 4 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
