Welcome to Wikispecies!

Hello, and welcome to Wikispecies! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages you might like to see:

If you have named a taxon, then it is likely that there is (or will be) a Wikispecies page about you, and other pages about your published papers. Please see our advice and guidance for taxon authors.

If you have useful images to contribute to Wikispecies, please upload them at Wikimedia Commons. This is also true for video or audio files containing bird songs, whale vocalization, etc.

Please sign your comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your username (if you're logged in) and the date. Please also read the Wikispecies policy What Wikispecies is not. If you need help, ask me on my talk page, or in the Village Pump. Again, welcome! Thanks for adding vernacular names and references to Bathyergus suillus. (I've adjusted the formatting a bit). However, the information you placed on the talk pages does not really belong here at Wikispecies, which is a site concentrated on taxonomy and nomenclature, and not the same as Wikipedia, or a forum. I quote from Help:General Wikispecies, one of our reference pages, on the scope of Wikispecies. "Wikispecies is describing nomenclature and taxonomy. Contributing to Wikispecies means you are familiar with these topics. Topics not related to nomenclature or taxonomy do not belong on Wikispecies, and body-length pieces of text should be included on Wikipedia. Distribution and range data can be included in the talk page of an article." See also What Wikispecies is not. Thus your comment "I understood that Wikispecies is a repository for information regarding the species of the world." is true only for information related to taxonomy and nomenclature. If you want to write paragraphs about South African species based on reference texts, those would be welcome at Wikipedia. If you want to write personal comments about personal observations, those are material for a blog or web forum, not an encyclopedia or a taxonomic directory.
