Description sections

Hi there. I'm sorry, that wasn't very consequent, was it? The thing is, we don't put descriptions, weblinks etc. on the pages. Ideally there should be only taxonavigation, taxonomic information (name, author, holotype, synonmy), interwikis, vernacular names and an image. It is just about implementation actually. There should be one monolingual wikispecies with both interwikis (with existing links) and vernacular names (linked to other wikis as may be). A search on a vernacular name should then yield taxonomic information plus a link to the wikis in any language for which an article exists. Front pages to Wikispecies should also exist in all languages to explain scope and setup.
Now, I've moved all the descriptions to the discussion pages so that they are not 'lost' (sorry about the Araneomorphae, that's been rectified). That information is on hold for move to the English Wikipedia. Hope that explains. -- Lycaon 06:16, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

Yeah for some weird reason the noinclude tag has to be attached to the text of the template. I think you can hit enter after the first noinclude tag though. Happy new year to you also :) --Kempm 09:45, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

References format

well, differing ideas on format is something we really don't want to get in the way of progress, so, my advice would be to follow my format style if you are OK with that, and if not, you can format your edits your way, and we will have to live with a little bit of variation in format. The main thing is to put DOIs or other links (e.g. links to BHL) on references wherever you can find them ... Stho002 (talk) 06:02, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

Your admin status

Hello. I'm a steward. A new policy regarding the removal of "advanced rights" (administrator, bureaucrat, etc.) was adopted by community consensus recently. According to this policy, the stewards are reviewing administrators' activity on wikis with no inactivity policy.

You meet the inactivity criteria (no edits and no log actions for 2 years) on specieswiki, where you are an administrator. Since specieswiki does not have its own administrators' rights review process, the global one applies.

If you want to keep your rights, you should inform the community of the wiki about the fact that the stewards have sent you this information about your inactivity. If the community has a discussion about it and then wants you to keep your rights, please contact the stewards at m:Stewards' noticeboard, and link to the discussion of the local community, where they express their wish to continue to maintain the rights, and demonstrate a continued requirement to maintain these rights.

We stewards will evaluate the responses. If there is no response at all after approximately one month, we will proceed to remove your administrative rights. In cases of doubt, we will evaluate the responses and will refer a decision back to the local community for their comment and review. Kathpalmeria

I am in process of handling reference disambiguations as I get to them. That a,b,c has always been the practice in cirriped articles. I checked out Lophobalanus baumi wardi and updated it. Kathpalmeria (?) wardi is original published name for that species. Zullo had named it same year he named Lophobalanus, but at that time, Kathpalmeria was the only barnacle with the distinctive folded shell plates known. Now there is an early Amphibalanus, other archaeobalanids, and tetraclitids with that feature. Also, the distinctive wall structure of Semibalanus is derived from that condition. Zullo and I were working on a manuscript revising some SE US archaeobalanids when he passed away. Now I am retired, and picked it back up. I had gotten some of the synonymy from the ms. I need to look further, because Kathpalmeria wardi may still be the valid present name. Vic had re-assigned it as a subspecies of L. baumi, but I can't see why. I plan to separate them as distinct species. I need to leave it alone about 1 week till I find out.

Hello, I’m Marius, an admin here at WS. I would like to ask you to contribute to an important ongoing vote which will practically decide the future of WS. As you probably know, the user Stho002, an admin, is forcefully endorsing his concept of the content and format of WS. His “system” includes a complex mesh of templates and links which is nowhere specified or written down, is not considered as a consensus, and is not easy or trivial to use, especially by newcomers. As my experience goes, when I save an edited page, Stho002 will delete or change it sooner or later, sometimes in a matter of seconds. This is no way of maintaining a healthy community. It is a lamentable fact that the aggressiveness by which Stho enforces his way deters many users and causes many newcomers leave this site.

The original WS help pages ([1], [2], [3]) contain a much simpler system, where the resulting taxa information is no less clear nor less detailed then Stho’s format, and which is being used successfully for years by experienced users as well as by novices.

If we decide that our current page format is outdated in need of improvement, we surely must make the change through collaboration and discussion. It is unacceptable that a single user will dictate his concept, however better-suited for our purposes he thinks it is.

We therefore have three options: (a) to make Stho002 system the official WS format; (b) to endorse the system specified in the help pages; (c) to devise a new system by mutual cooperation. After we reach an agreement, we’ll modify the help pages accordingly, resulting in a consistent way of doing things, without having to fight among ourselves, without having to resort to deleting and modifying each other’s work.

Therefore please read the discussion here and take a moment of your time and make your choice here. I think it is your obligation as an admin to participate in the vote. Thanks, Mariusm (talk) 08:59, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

Wikispecies Oversighter

Wikispecies has no local Oversighter. Since I had the communitys confidence regarding the previous application for Checkusers rights, as per local Oversight policy on META, I hereby apply to get Oversighters user rights, as a request to the Wikispecies community.

Application is located at Requests for Comment.

Please also note that Oversighter actions are logged, but for privacy reasons the logs are only visible to other Oversighters. Because of this, Wikispecies must always have no fewer than two oversighters, for mutual accountability. I don't want to suggest anyone, but hope that someone feel inspired and will step forward and also apply for oversighters rights.
