Name
[edit]Tydeidae Kramer, 1877
- Original status: valid family
- Type genus & species: Tydeus spathulatus Oudemans, 1928, designated by ICZN (2008)
Synonyms
[edit]- Tydidae in old writings, e.g. Kramer (1877: 224, 232, 233, 247), Trouessart (1891: 303), Oudemans (1931: XXI, XXII, XXIV) and, sometimes, still in use in recent papers. Naming not conform to ICZN.
Notes
[edit]- The family Tydeidae studied by Thor (1933) accommodated only 14 genera.
- The family reviewed by Baker (1965) included 15 genera.
- The family was divided in 7 subfamilies by André (1979):
- the Tydeinae,
- the Australotydaeinae,
- the Pretydeinae,
- the Pronematinae [transferred to Iolinidae by André & Fain (2000)],
- the Tydaeolinae [transferred to Iolinidae by André & Fain (2000)],
- the Triophtydeinae [transferred to Triophtydeidae by André & Fain (2000)],
- the Meyerellinae [transferred to Triophtydeidae by André & Fain (2000)] (as Edbakerellinae, replacement name).
- The family was redefined by André & Fain (2000) and comprised only 3 subfamilies (Australotydaeinae, Tydeinae, Pretydeinae).
- The three subfamilies (Australotydaeinae, Tydeinae, Pretydeinae) are treated in the catalog published by Silva et al. (2016) which includes 328 species and 30 genera. Up to 445 species are listed on the net.
- Fossil records include two genera, †Palaeotydeus and †Paraprotacarus, not assigned to a a specific subfamily (Dunlop & Garwood (2017: 4)).
