Type locality: Indonesia, W-Java Prov., Ciamis, Mt. Sawal, Batu Cakra, sample 1, S07°14.920', E108°15.762', 990 m.
Holotype: BZM ARC0204 (EMBL # LM655426), ♂, 24-VIII-2006.
Etymology: This epithet is based on the Latin adjective echinatus (prickly) and refers to the species´ erect scales that resemble spines.
