Speculation: Similarly to my name confusion for Viswajyothi Keezhpattillam, Prathapan is often given as "K. D. Prathapan", but is also known as "Prathapan Divakaran" or "Prathapan K. Prathapan" in some websites (e.g. Academia.edu). Maybe "Prathapan" is actually his personal name (and the name he is generally known by) and the other two names are his family name or other names?
