Taxonomic Notes[edit]
Recently, status of many "synonyms" of Eilema has been reviewed by Dubatolov & Zolotuhin (2011), based on male genitalia structure; correct generic status of many genera: Tarika Moore, Gandhara Moore, Collita Moore, Katha Moore, Capissa Moore, Dolgoma Moore, Zadadra Moore, Prabhasa Moore, Manulea Wllgr., Muscula Kocak, Wittia de Freina (=Systropha Hb.), Zobida Birk.-Smith, was affirmed. Eilema Hb. is a monotypic genus (one species, E. caniolum Hb.), with male genitalia very different from other groups. Few days ago, I have studied Simareea Moore; it is also a good genus. On the other hand, Setema de Freina & Witt and Agenjoa Dubat. & Zolot. (=Colinia Agenjo, younger homonym) were downgraded to subgenera of Manulea Wllgr. So, most part of European Eilema should be placed in Manulea Wallengren, excluding Collita (griseola group), Katha (deplana group), Wittia (sororcula group), and some small groups from South Europe. So, the authors returned to Moore's (1878) system of this group. - V.V.Dubatolov, Dec., 09, 2011.
