Lectotype: BMNH 1907.5.22.179. Paralectotypes: BMNH 1907.5.22.180-186 (7); BMNH 1904.10.26.44-45 (2).

Type locality: Cameroon. Ja River at Bitye.

Etymology: Species name batesii refers to the collector: G. L. Bates.
