Diagnosis: Thallus squamiformis. Cortex superioris sine reliquiis algarum; algae virides, unicellulares; medulla non amyloidea. Apothecia lecideina, ad margineum squamarum affixa, badioatra vel atra; hymenium amyloideum, sine crystalliis; asci ut in geno Porpidia; sporae octonae, incolores, simplices, non-halonatae. Pycnidia mox sessilia, ad margineum squamarum affixa; conidiophora ramosa; pycnoconida lateralis, anguste ellipsoidea.

Type species: Romjularia lurida (Ach.) Timdal 2007

Family: Porpidiaceae

Number of species: One world-wide

Etymology: Named after the period between Christmas and New Year (romjul in Norwegian). The diagnosis and the main part of description was prepared during this period in 1995.
