Diagnosis: Similis Punctelia borrerina medulla C- et conidiis filiformibus sed lobis involutis, pseudocyphaellis inconspicuuis et conidiis brevibus filiformibus (7–9 µm) differt.
Type: BRAZIL.SÃO PAULO: São Luis do Paraitinga, Parque Estadual da Serra do Mar, Núcleo Santa Virgínia, disable trail, 23o21'09,7"S, 45o07'48,6"W, 975 m alt., at the base of thin rotten Myrtaceae trunk inside the open forest, L.S. Canêz, P. Jungbluth, A.A. Spielmann & M.J. Kitaura 2320, 14-I-2007 (holotype SP).
Etymology: Punctelia involuta is characterized by involute lobes, which are unique in the P. microsticta-group.
