Type locality: Northeastern Pacific, south part of Gulf of California, Mexico, USFC Albatross, sta 2823, 24°18′00″N 110°22′00″W / 24.300000°N 110.366667°W. Depth 48.5 m.
Lectotype: USNM 16716 designated by Lemaitre (2023).

Etymology: named after Sidney Irving Smith.
