Type locality: Colombia, Úapes, Rio Guaviare.
Remarks: Fooden (1963) recognized four subspecies (L. l. lagothricha, L. l. poeppigii, L. l. cana, L. l. lugens); divided into four species with one subspecies (L. cana tschudii) by Groves (2001, 2005); restored as one species by Ruiz-García et al. (2014).
