Type locality: Indonesia, Sulawesi, South Sulawesi Province, Lake Mahalona, inshore habitat of north-western Lake Mahalona at 2°34.751’S, 121°29.068’E, Larona (Malili Lakes) drainage.

Etymology: Named for the type locality Lake Mahalona, Sulawesi.
