The short squat florets are like those of Oryzopsis and the persistent awn is like that of Stipa (as the genera of Stipeae are traditionally characterized). The right hand exposed floret had the awn manually broken to illustrate no zone of abscission. The floret at the far right is that of Stipa nelsonii (for comparison of the slenderness of the Stipa floret).
