Description

Convolvulus erubescens. Found widespread across the volcanic plains of Victoria in grasslands ranging from the Mallee to coastal heaths and open drier forest-lands. Woody taproot probably available all year. It formed one of the principal vegetable foods for aboriginal peoples in winter when the Yam-daisy (Murnong) was out of season. The Gunditjmara called this Tarook.

Bababi Djinanang is a native grassland reserve in Fawkner, near the end of Jukes Road and Merri Creek. The site is fenced but is accessible to walkers. The native grasslands is an imporatant ecosystem which once stretched for hundreds of miles across the basaltic plains west of Melbourne. With development only about 1% of these grasslands are left in small pockets which harbour an important diversity of native flora and fauna species.
