Summary

Description
English: Heath Fragrant Orchid (Gymnadenia borealis). Of the various species of Fragrant Orchid that are recognized in the British Isles, Gymnadenia borealis, shown here, is the one most commonly encountered in Scotland; the "wings" (lateral sepals) of the flowers are broader, relative to their length, than in the other species.

These orchids were found growing on fairly boggy moorland.

[In Stace's "Flora", 2nd edn (1997), there was one "Fragrant Orchid", Gymnadenia conopsea, which was divided into various subspecies, such as ssp. borealis. However, the 3rd edn (2010), makes them separate species; see https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1362742 for further details.]
