Deutsch: Dieses Grauhörnchen ist von Fliegenlarven der Gattung Cuterebrinae, Familie Oestridae (Dasselfliegen) befallen und bildet Dasselbeulen aus. Der Befall ist örtlich und (normalerweise) nicht dauerhaft schädigend für das Hörnchen. Sobald die Larven schlüpfen heilen die Wunden gewöhnlich, obwohl sie mit Bakterien infiziert werden können oder durch Entzündung Abszesse bilden können. Dieser Zustand ist relativ häufig und kann nicht auf andere Tiere übergehen, kann jedoch andere Tiere treffen. Es ist auch bei Haus- und Nutztieren – wie Vieh – möglich, wobei dies aufgrund heutiger Parasiten-Steuerungsverfahren nicht häufig geschieht. Fotografiert in Midlothian (Virginia, USA). Other animals can also become infected with warbles, and it is possible to see cases in domestic animals such as cattle, although nowadays (with more fly and parasite control methods) it doesn't happen very often.
