Summary

Description

I'm always looking out for smaller shrubby relatives of what we usually consider large trees with a view to recommending them for small gardens. The hornbeams and the birches both have smaller relatives, usually with attractively textured leaves, and are well worth looking out for.

This one, seen at Wakehurst was a small (< 20ft tall) upright tree.
