Epomophorus labiatus (Temminck, 1837)

  • Lectotype: RMNH.MAM.27342.a (partial skull), RMNH.MAM.27342.b (mounted skin), juvenile ♀, colllected by Paolo Emilio Botta between 1830–1833. [designated by Bergmans (1988: 101)]
  • Type locality: “Abyssinie”.

Native distribution areas

  • Saudi Arabia and Yemen
  • northern Nigeria and Cameroon, into Chad, southern and central Sudan, Ethiopia and Eritrea, south into eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi, Kenya and Tanzania (including the islands of Unguja [=Zanzibar] and Mafia), being recorded as far south as Malawi, northern Mozambique and northern Zambia.
