Life habit: Lichenicolous fungus on Cladonia spp. (rarely on Stereocaulon spp.) when young, later an independent lichen

World distribution: Cosmopolitan in relatively open habitats in Mediterranean, temperate and polar regions and extending to high altitudes in the tropics
