- Type locality: Weijia Seamount, northwestern Pacific Ocean. 12°28′12″N 156°24′36″E / 12.470000°N 156.410000°E. Depth 1935m.
- Holotype: SRSIOAS044
- Paratypes: SRSIOAS028; SRSIOAS003; SRSIOAS052; MBM286625
- Etymology: The name is originated from the character “Patrick Star” in the famous cartoon “SpongeBob Squarepants”, who always spends time with his best friend “SpongeBob”, a benthic sponge. Since all specimens of the new species were observed in situ living on sponges, it was name by Patrick to reflect this curious relationship.
