Name[edit]

Centromochlus (Sauronglanis) Grant, 2015

Etymology: Sauronglanis is derived from the Maia and Dark Lord, Sauron, the main antagonist in J. R. R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Greek, glanis = a catfish. The name has been given in allusion to the dark or black colouration of the species being similar to the Dark Lord, the large eyes of the genus in allusion to the Eye of Sauron, and the relationship between it and two of the Lord of the Ring's based subgenera described here.

Vernacular names[edit]

English: Sauron Catfish
