Type locality: Southwest Indian Ridge, 35° 10’S, 53° 40’E, bottom trawl, between 800–1,300 m depth.

Etymology: The species is named in recognition of the authors colleague Gavin Naylor, College of Charleston, for his contributions and innovative molecular research into the higher classification of chondrichthyans and for his support of this project.
