- Type species: Branchinecta pollicifera Harding, 1941
- Fixation: monotypy [Branchinecta barstowensis Belk & Schram, 2001 was also originally included, but with some doubt, i.e. 'Unfortunately, no specimens of B. barstowensis have been found with the genital segments and gonopods intact. However, the second antennal characters used by Belk and Schram (2001) to link B. barstowensis to the genus Branchinecta are limited to B. barstowensis and B. pollicifera. Therefore, we surmise that both species are congeneric and we hope that future B. barstowensis gonopod morphology data will be found that will further support this conclusion']
